Property Description

On the West shore (best shore!) of Lake Tahoe, the private home we call May-Ah-Mee Lodge is historic, comfortable, private, and modern all at once. This long-held family vacation home incorporates the “Rock House,” the last standing remnant of the original May-Ah-Mee Lodge, which operated in the 1910-20s. The Lodge’s reputation drew famous visitors including Aimee Semple McPherson (and numerous other luminaries) in its heyday. Want to see postcards of the original Lodge? Visit:

Vacation House on the Shore of Lake Tahoe

The “new” May-Ah-Mee Lodge was built with modern amenities adjoining the original Rock House. Its unique ambiance blends Old Tahoe style with up-to-date comforts. The home sleeps 12 people; every room boasts magnificent views. Lie in bed and watch the sun rise over the Lake. An ample kitchen and dining room accommodate large family meals at a table facing the wide open blue water and sky. Three decks and the Rock House patio offer outdoor comfort with beautiful views. At the May-Ah-Mee, there is time for togetherness and enough room for a little peace and quiet—multiple living room/gathering areas offer “space” when desired.

Family Home Rental in Lake Tahoe

lake-tahoe-vacation-rentals-13May-Ah-Mee Lodge is the perfect place for a family vacation at Lake Tahoe. The home is down a quiet private road, at a distance from Hwy 89. A large private pier and designated buoy make boating easy. Sunbathe, fish, or catch crawdads off the pier. Swim, kayak, water ski and paddle board! When the lake level lowers, a private beach extends your play area. Enjoy a sunset BBQ on the Rock House patio; swing in the hammock under cedars, curl up in a cozy reading corner overlooking Tahoe. All of this without leaving “home.”

In easy walking distance, you’ll find Tahoma market (exceptional deli, groceries & wine), a few restaurants, a coffee bar, a kids playground and the post office. It’s just a little further to the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion on Sugar Pine Point, Chambers Landing, or the Rubicon Trail.

Heading north, a paved bike path makes its way along the shore to Tahoe City, down the Truckee River, all the way to Squaw Valley and beyond. Southward are Meeks Bay, D.L. Bliss, Emerald Bay, Camp Richardson, South Lake Tahoe, and more.

Enjoy the best of Lake Tahoe on the West shore (best shore!) at May-Ah-Mee Lodge in Tahoma. Once you vacation here, you’ll never want to leave.

Guest Book

This rental is really nice, on the Lake and private, private, private! We had a great vacation, took advantage of the many things to do around the home without having to get in a car. Boating, hiking, fishing, biking. We did it all. The home is well maintained and comfortable with lots of niceties. Roomy and the kids had great areas to play without having to be under their parents feet. A true vacation for us all.

We have awesome family memories of our visits to this place through the years. Hanging out on the dock after a barbecue and soaking in the view is just paradise. The location just can't be better. As for the accommodations, it's a perfect balance of modern conveniences, creature comforts and rustic mountain living. The stone cottage is a throwback to the 1950s that puts a smile on your face as soon as you step in. All the other rooms are up to date and super comfortable. On the whole, it's one of our favorite places on earth. Highly recommended.

Large, lakefront home with own pier, buoy and beach. Several separate living areas for several families or different age groups. Home is always clean and comfortable. Nice private location near Tahoma, Homewood, Sunnyside and Tahoe city. We have come to Tahoe for almost 40 years in the summer and have stayed here the last 10 years - we wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

This is an absolutely beautiful property, right on the shores of Lake Tahoe! Perfect for the enjoyment of year round activities! Wonderful for family reunions, as it accommodates many for sleeping. We were here in October of 2011. We went bicycling, saw fish spawning, went on beautiful hikes- all in all a wonderful experience!! We will definitely stay at this property again!!!

We loved the lakefront location, private pier and all of the bedrooms. It is comfortable living and in immaculate condition. Located in Tahoma, on the West Shore, it's about 15 minutes from Tahoe City. If you vacation at Tahoe you have to be right on the lake!
